Richard L. Owens, DDS
Dr. Richard Owens is a dentist in Louisiana from Lafayette and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. He was on active duty with the U.S. Air Force and maintained inactive reserve status for 9 years while he continued his education. He attended LSU School of Dentistry, graduating in 1981. After working as an associate dentist in 5 dental practices, he entered private practice in Destrehan, Louisiana in 1985. He is a member of several dental associations and study clubs including the Academy of General Dentistry, Academy of CAD/CAM Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, American Dental Association, Louisiana Dental Association, New Orleans Dental Association, and the Cerec Study Club of New Orleans.
He is ethically committed to his lifetime journey of excellent dental care treating oral facial pain through his ongoing postgraduate continuing education for the benefit of his patient population. He received his Mastership Award from the Academy of General Dentistry in 2011 which is achieved by only 2% of U.S. and Canadian dentists. He has completed over 1500 hours throughout his career, including the completion of the Core Curriculum from the prestigious Dawson Academy of Advanced Dental Studies in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the 2008 to 2010 Comprehensive Dentistry Program (MasterTrak) at the University of Florida School of Dentistry in Gainesville, Florida. In January 2012 Dr. Owens was commissioned as a Lieutenant Colonel Dental Officer in the LA Army National Guard and is presently serving our Louisiana Service Members as the State Dental Officer.
He and his wife Sandy have lived in Destrehan since 1983. They have four children, Richard Jr., Rachael, Ross, Reid, and two grandchildren, Austin and Madelyn. They are also blessed with their best friends, boxers Bacco and Stella.
In addition to his family, his other interests include ushering masses at St. Charles Borromeo Church, playing league tennis, attending Saints Football Games, and going to professional tennis tournaments.
He also enjoys going to Broadway and local theatre plays. He loves listening to instrumental music due to his professional trumpet playing experiences in earlier years.
Reid M. Owens, DDS
Dr. Reid Owens, a native of Destrehan, Louisiana acquired his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. There he received the following awards: Louisiana Dental Association- Outstanding Senior Dental Student, LSU Dental Alumni Association Senior Leadership Award, American Student Dental Association - Excellence in Leadership Award, and American Equilibration Society – Leader in Occlusion and TMD. He attained his B.S. Degree from the University of New Orleans in Biological Sciences and is a local graduate of St. Charles Catholic in LaPlace, LA. Throughout his undergraduate studies, he served as President of Pre-Dental Society at U.N.O. for two years. This was then followed by 4 years of service as the American Student Dental Association representative and then president at the LSUSD Chapter. During that time he represented LSUSD on the national level as State Delegate and district 5 legislative liaison. Furthermore, in 2010 Dr. Reid was commissioned as an officer into the Louisiana Army National Guard. He has recently been promoted to captain, serving the LA military community in monthly health events.

Dr. Reid looks forward to serving the Destrehan and River Parishes communities as a general dentist, providing all aspects of family dentistry. He has a great affinity for comprehensive dentistry, especially esthetics and prosthodontics. Led by his father’s great passion for continuing education, Dr. Reid also is committed to broadening his exposure to new techniques and technology, providing the most modern, advanced clinical services to his patients. Dr. Reid is an active member in the New Orleans Dental Association, Louisiana Dental Association, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Military Officers Association of America, and National Guard Association of the United States. He participates in dental outreach programs in New Orleans and at Ozanam Inn Homeless Shelter.
Dr. Reid shares his love of science and dentistry with his wife Stacey, as she also pursues her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree at LSU School of Dentistry. Together they love traveling, spending time with family, playing tennis, cooking, photography and the arts. They also enjoy days in Audobon Park with their rescue dogs, Pierre and Poppy. Dr. Reid appreciates following local college athletics as he and Stacey have academic ties to LSU, Tulane, UL, and UNO.
